As children, we are expected to believe in magic. As adults we are expected to leave that foolishness behind. But the concept of a portal — the intersection of what was and what could be — never stops being seductive. The quiet tension before that first step forward, the breath held during the leap. With the “Tiny Portals” series I seek to capture the magic of those prescient moments of possibility and to illuminate the universal human experience of transition. I am drawn to the idea that these transitions are the result of passing through a portal from one realm to another. My work is a visual narrative of this journey, revealing this previously invisible portal, and displaying its magic qualities for all to see.
