Also known as “Things that you wouldn’t think of in a million years unless you were a 4-yr-old.” I present to you, the whisk attachment from my Kitchen Aid mixer, as found on the floor of Zoe and Lucy’s playroom.
Harold’s Planet is a sweet little comic I stumbled upon a while ago. They sent out weekly cartoons and have a trove of cute animations and whatnots at their site. At times it verges a little on “too cute,” but for the most part they have a great sense of absurd + cute and have hit some real winners. Here’s my all-time favorite: Visit their blog to see the archives, which is where some of the aces are.
What’choo got against Shaun Cassidy? {Thanks Adam.}
In an attempt to dig myself out of this funk I’ve been in the past couple of weeks, I’ve decided to spend a few days looking at/for things that make me happy. And since the Upside Up is cheaper than therapy, I’m going to post my progress (and share the fruits of my labor) here. Enjoy! +++ Handimals (or, in Italian, Manimali), by Guido Daniele. Hands. Turned into animals. Breathtaking.
My niece Tess turned 2 last Saturday and had a fairy birthday party. All the kids had wings, tutus, wands and flowery headbands, and my sister-in-law Brooke beautifully and tastefully decorated the house to lovely ethereal effect. Needless to say, the kids (all girls except for one boy, for whom Brooke, made a little elf costume!) had a blast and loved all the fairy play. This photo is of the aftermath: Brooke reading on the couch with Lucy, Tess and Zoe, who would have sat there, all pink and cuddly and rapt, for 5 hours had Brooke been willing. The…
Trying to write anything creative right now is proving terribly terribly impossible due to a little run of crappy we’ve had here. I’ve got 3 or 4 posts started, but none finished, and all outdated, despite their all containing information I wanted to tell you. So what do I do? Mashup? Forget it all and move on? Just keep writing and pretend everything is still current? Yes. A list! Of all the crappy! So I can get it out and move on! You’re brilliant! (Warning: It’s a long one. And it contains nothing truly tragic or even deserving of much…
Thanks to TiVo, we’ve started watching Saturday Night Live (Saturday Night TiVo’d?) again, and not a moment too soon. It is freakin hilarious these days. We’ve all seen the SNL Digital Shorts du jour, and yes, they’re all pretty side splitting. (And if you haven’t yet seen them, here’s your chance to quietly click here, then here, then here. We won’t tell — just go watch them now and you’ll be all caught up.) But the best skit I’ve seen in a long long time is this one here. Enjoy: Happy Friday friends — have a great weekend!
There are so many things to say about this that I’m rendered speechless. So instead, please allow me to simply present to you, with a knowing smile, pork flavored stamps. Just in time for Chinese New Year! (Found via the beautiful Tastespotting, which I found via the lovely Troll Baby, who can still provide sweet links in the midst of trauma. Go send Karen some love today if you have a chance.)
Hey 80s kids! Remember Friday Night Videos? You know. The 90 min long show with more commercials than videos that we-who-did-not-yet-have-cable-and-therefore-did-not-have-MTV had to watch if we wanted to see Thriller [yet] again. Well, here at the Upside Up, we’re pleased to present our own spinoff: Friday Morning Videos! It’s just like Friday Night Videos, but earlier! So get yourself a California Cooler cup of coffee, put your feet up on your coffee table desk and enjoy. Tony vs. Paul Thanks Adam
You won’t often find me talking politics here at the Upside Up. It’s not that I don’t have anything to say, it’s just that before you and I finish our conversation, I will generally get frustrated to the point of throwing my hands in the air with a futile sigh loud enough to wake Abe Lincoln. You know how in college, when you were taking a tough class, sometimes you didn’t study for an exam as well as you knew you should? This way, when you didn’t get a good grade, you could say, “Well, I didn’t study as hard…
