Lucky lucky me

By sites to see4 Comments

Design Mom, overseer of all that is lovely at the intersection of Design and Motherhood, has graciously invited me to be the Guest Mom over at her place this week. Aren’t I the luckiest designer/mom/blogger ever?? You don’t have to answer. I totally know I am. So come visit me over there this week. She’ll still be posting right alongside me, and if you don’t already know about her blog, I’d like you to. It will make you happy.

Another reason I married the right person

By funny ha ha, monkeys, overheard5 Comments

The Scene: Dinnertime chez UpsideUp Zoe: “Mama? Did you marry Uncle Mike?” Me: “No sweetie. Uncle Mike is my brother.” Lucy: “That’s right. Mama married Papa.” Me: “Right.” Bob: “And she made the right choice.” Me: “Except Uncle Mike has a nicer car than Papa.” Zoe: “Yeah. But Uncle Mike doesn’t look where he’s going.” + + + I hate to tie sandbags to the spontaneity of that exchange, but I feel it important and relevant to disclose that Uncle Mike has not ever been in an accident that he caused. We have no idea what Zoe is talking about….

Rockin the Queen City since 2007

By house2 Comments

Happy happy everyone. Hope your days have been full-up with good stuff like gingerbread men, raffia, pine needles, chanukah candle wax, reindeer hoofprints, toys that have “off” buttons, friends from far away, family that makes you smile, ham, latkes, gooses, wine and all the trappings of whatever holidays you’re celebrating these days. We’re in the home stretch now, 2007 a mere 27 hours away and let me tell you, I’m ready. 2006 has been a lot. of. work. And I’m not one bit sad to see it move on into the history books. To celebrate a whole new year, we’ll…

Love Thursday

By love thursday, monkeys, photos2 Comments

I was first introduced to family Christmas traditions in the 10th grade when I was invited to my best friend Joy’s house to help her family trim their tree — insisted upon by her father, who was dismayed when he found out I had never trimmed a tree before. It was everything I expected and hoped it would be — warm, loving, nostalgic and full of sweetness. My family growing up had plenty of our own special traditions for different holidays (and now that I’m an adult with a family of my own, I treasure them all, and work to…

Secret election

By spam spam bacon and spam5 Comments

Did you know there was a vote held on the best stocking stuffer this year? I absolutely did not. And let me tell you, I do feel cheated. I’m still learning about all this Christmas hullaballoo, like do you hang your stockings on Christmas Eve or do you hang them in the weeks leading up to Christmas? or do you leave the Christmas tree on when you leave the house so the world can see how warm your home is when lit solely by mini lights, or do you turn it off in the name of safety? or what is…

Apparently I don’t like politics

By photos, sites to see5 Comments

Which is actually kinda true. I mean, I’m not opposed to government in and of itself, but the process by which we arrive at government? Not for me. Too much senseless arguing and too many “oh if only” statements and not enough actual power for the people. But I digress. Wanna know who told me I don’t like politics? A website. And not just any website. Not one of those silly personality quizzes, no no. This is a website with pictures. Of cats and tractors. And Fred Flintstone. And uh trees and stuff. You click on pictures and then there’s…
